"If youre wondering what Baytex might do with their Eagle Ford proceeds you dont need to overthink it. Theyll likely buy Spartan Delta. No they wont buy Obsidian to consolidate the Peace River. No they arent going to buy Saturn or Artis or Parallax or any combination of sub-scale conventional companies because theyre cheap. They already FAFOd with buying Tier 2-3 slop in the Eagle Ford and look where we are now. Selling it X years later with almost no value extracted from it. That didnt work out too well Spartan is the only Tier X liquids-weighted shale asset in Canada thats both scalable and"

Would be pretty strong coincidence to be positioned on the first meter station west of out of the Permian off El Paso when everyone else is going off Transwestern in Arizona cause existing power and Kinder expansion or east off Energy Transfer but competing for supply. "Do I think Exxon is being dishonest in saying that there is long-term upside to Permian recoveries as technology continues to improve no. Literally no one will disagree. But the XX% recovery factor is erroneous. Shale works because we pump proppant into the rock to bust open fractures and then produce the oil. But with time these fractures seal you cant just increase it. We have refracs right now but again its a cost problem. The transport cost of ULWP has nothing to really do with it"

"You're so close lmao. Ya oil prices were unsustainably low for X years as the US grew pretty indiscriminately at the cost of equity capital. This is like -- a pretty well known phenomenon. It's colloquially called the "shale revolution" if you want to read about it. This caused many bankruptcies. Strathcona bought stuff cause they had money (that was their whole schtick). There were high-quality assets going bankrupt every day motivated largely by an unsustainable macro environment (hint: not one that's going to repeat). Sure the industry is still cyclical but not to the point of 2015-2021."

"Equities are expensive given the current crude backdrop. I don't know if we're still seeing the production cuts we need to in order to balance the market. Market oversupply is a pretty strong gravity and still feels like limited equity upside even if we get some slack out of the glut that has been so widely foretold. I don't focus much on the physical market anymore but prices don't have material upside IMO at least not to get to the point where equities look meaningfully cheap"

"For those that own $SOC and want to maintain energy exposure even though Sable isn't actively working out -- here are some other ideas (mainly Canada) that can be starting points for new positions. They're less gambl-y but a number have near-term inflections or have decent price convexity. $BTE - owns an Eagle Ford position that's currently for sale EV of the entire company is US$3.4Bn they probably get US$2.4Bn for it remaining Canadian assets worth US$1Bn pretty material equity upside to both disposition prices and commodity prices. This one is pretty gambly on the A&D market absorbing"

"I think you're tryna gotcha me but my entire life is reading about this stuff not just browsing it. But I'll explain in earnest. It's largely exclusive to Exxon because their lightweight proppant is a refinery coke slurry that they have patented. If they were to sell it to anyone else the XX% increase in EUR would be offset by costs. Other novel proppants (ceramic beads coated sand) can also increase EUR but it's all at a higher cost so while oil recoveries could increase for anyone but Exxon or the Supermajors (that have integrated refining operations) it's going to almost certainly not make"

"Well for oil to hit $XX or even $XX (the original @orrdavid post) it would need to hugely increase US production. Of course Exxon will say up to XX% they want people to think its working great. "The only entity that would (should) ever pay a premium for $NVA stock is $OVV. The only reason someone would buy a XX% block for a premium is if they were going to eventually pay a premium for the company. That's clearly what's going to happen. It looks really good on a map but would be a bad deal -- and also raises the question; why should Ovintiv be downspacing in the Montney -- what cost of capital advantage do they have Ovintiv's Karr acquisition last year -- phenomenal very well done. $3Bn for 70000BOE/d that's very sustainable and some of the best drilling inventory in North America."

The big entrenched models are gonna have massive asset value in a few years. Bullish the industrial support like GE Vernova Siemens the transmission and wire guys infinitely. They havent even expanded supply chains yet. Extremely bearish the beneficiaries like IREN Cipher etc. where all they have is a grid interconnect it feels like these guys should be XX% lower. "The main reason why this is just bad thinking is that it ignores the fact that oil markets clear marginally and that lightweight proppant is mkt necessarily Exxon-exclusive but its an F&D decision for others operators and less-so Exxon. Exxons Permian cost structure is not marginal its solidly at the lower end of the cost curve. This might move it even lower (slightly) but its just so immaterial in the context of the global market. It would be like saying that longer laterals will drive WTI price down. This might shift the Permians maintenance breakeven down a dollar or two but its not"
