I was also a credit derivatives quant back then focusing on synthetic CDOs etc (not cash CDO or MBS). Whether the financial institutions truly made money or not I don't know. They did but then they lost it and more. Looking back over the whole era some went bankrupt for others losses incurred likely what they'd made over the previous 5Y who knows. presumably there is an analysis of it somewhere. I know a couple of firms GS and BarCap that hedged well & early and ended up making money from the crisis (and I know the quants who were responsible for that) but I think those" [X Link](https://x.com/QuantyJim/status/1979881785887428888) [@QuantyJim](/creator/x/QuantyJim) 2025-10-19T12:06Z XXX followers, 2153 engagements "@MikeZaccardi Hi Mike.
