"The only reason Kendrick Lamar can even compete with Drake is because his legacy has been extremely polished by critics award shows and think pieces whereas Drakes legacy has been built in real time by the culture: clubs captions playlists and memes. "Drake wouldnt be the most quoted artist in a generation of IG captions if his lyrics lacked substance. People connect with his words because they feel real not because you have to think about them to understand what he's saying. The literal definition of artistic genius is translating complex emotions into language everyone can relate to. Folks often confuse Kendricks 'complexity' with actual substance.
