"3/10 Market makers are in the business of selling options (insurance) to clients. When they sell a call or put they take on risk. Specifically they become Short Gamma. This means: If the stock rallies their short call's Delta becomes more negative (losing money faster). If the stock drops their short put's Delta becomes more positive (losing money faster). They're exposed to large moves"
