"WBI (wonky but important) -- The electricity grid operator for VA/PA/MD and XX other states just had a MAX PRICE auction for next year. In plain English it means your electric bills are likely going to RISE again next year. Possibly by a lot. One big reason is that it's really really hard to get new electricity projects up and running due to environmental lawsuits people complaining supply chain woes etc. And we're not talking about coal plants. There are a lot of wind and solar being held up . all while older fossil fuel plants are being shut down. Grid failures and blackouts seem"

They continue to shift toward electric cars not for environmental reasons but because they have a lot of coal and solar power that can make electricity so they dont have to rely on imported fuels. China is also quietly expanding Its domestic oil drilling. If and when we have a multi day power outage impacting millions of people trust me the issue will get a lot of attention"

"In 2009 the last incandescent light bulb factory in America shut down. It was in my high school hometown of Winchester Virginia. About XXX people lost solid jobs so we could make so called "green" light bulbs in central China. 11000 miles to ship stuff to back to America doesn't seem super green to me"

"Data center demand is a big deal but it's an easy scapegoat. PJM itself notes that millions of homes worth of power supply - 46GW - is held up by permitting issues supply chain problems and other issues. Bottom line: the additional power exists but it's just not getting built all while older fossil fuel plants are removed. PJM has been warning that lack of power (aka blackouts) are likely ahead if demand stays high"
