"On this day XXX years ago William Sydney Porter was released from jail after serving three years for embezzlement. He had fled to the Honduras but had returned when his wife Athol was dying of tuberculosis & surrendered soon after she died. Porter was devastated & seemed to have little to live for but decided to continue doing the one thing his late wife loved and encouraged his writing. After his prison sentence he moved to New York & wrote almost three hundred short stories some of them classics. "On the morning of Dec 14th 1971 six Sabres attacked Srinagar airport. Only two Gnat fighters had time to take off and one lost visual contact after gaining height. The other flown by Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon took on all the Sabres hitting at least two before he was shot down.
