"This bird C-135 63-8473 French registration F-UKCD crashed in French Polynesia with the loss of all X crew members on July 1st 1972 during a heavyweight takeoff. Severe corrosion on the compressor fins and blockage of pressure tap ports in the Fuel Control Unit cause by exposure to salt particles coral dust and saline atmosphere without adequate maintenance. "KC-135A 55-3139 dubbed the City of Atwater being permanently retired. It was the 44th aircraft to be added to the Castle Air Museum in April 1993. (A1C Carrissa Weaver) It's amazing this jet made it to 1993. This Boeing Model Number 717-100A was part of the very first contract Boeing had with this example being the 22nd airframe built. "I remember you posting about ATTF guys at Edwards but I don't recall seeing the tag. While I did get to do some great flights at Eielson one thing we didn't get to do was go anywhere else. We were at a slight disadvantage because while our base was upgrading to R models we took an A model to the ATTF (it was converted right after we returned home.) Farthest I got out of Alaska was Shemya. and technically that's still part of Alaska 🤣 So. wasn't me. But you're right it would be cool"

Go While I spend a month at Cairo West one afternoon my pilot (Aircraft Commander) had to do SOF Duty also known as Foxtrot or Supervisor of Flying and I asked him if I could come along to take some photos. While the C-17 can hold a maximum fuel load of 181000 pounds if its fully loaded with cargo (at 170900 pounds) that is reduced to only about 131000 lbs. "The next aircraft I thought would be another good example is our beloved C-5M Galaxy. good ol' FRED. Turns out it's about the same as the C-17 although it can carry more about 280000 pounds of cargo in total. It can make it from Travis to Hawaii (barely) but with a 100000 pounds added Midway Atoll is reachable. When I went looking for a good refueling video on DVIDS I found this one. It's so good that I didn't want to cut it up to show a contact. so here it is in total. The contact starts at about 0:42 if that's all you wish to see. "Around the Desert Storm timeframe the Saudis were building infrastructure like crazy. The roads were all new contruction and were generally in great shape. Large intersections were often used as gathering points in the evenings when the sun went down. You'd see hundreds of people pulled over on the side of the road hanging out. "I don't want to make light of Tori's issues with her jeep (it's terrible) but I'm hoping the explaination for this is that a bunch of software engineers got fired from Boeing's KC-46 boom program last year and they all landed jobs at Jeep. BTW. Jeep isn't the only car company that has this issue. My uncles got a Lincoln and he got in his car one day and it no longer worked due to an OTA update. Sorry Tori I couldn't resist I hope they get it all fixed up for you"

"Yes a couple of folks mentioned it. I didn't realize they'd added larger tanks. Doesn't really affect the calcs I did because when you max out with cargo your fuel is limited to your max takeoff weight (which was below the level of the smaller tank size.) Where that extra space for fuel comes in handy is when your cargo is lighter then you can load up with more fuel and fly further"
