"In October 2024 a family lost over $12k due to a crypto fraud scam that was run on YouTube using co-opted video of Elon Musk and SpaceX. IF it had been "direct theft" then Coinbase could have acted quickly and refunded the BTC sent but since it was a "scam" there is nothing the exchange could do beyond recommending they and other victims (of which there are at least 500+ on just that day) to seek justice via YouTube.
