"Many people think the Fannie Mae preferred stocks like $FNMAS or $FNMAT have a par value of $X. The Form 10K confirms this is not the case. They have a "stated value" which is either $XX or $XX (the S & T have $25). Holders receive stated value if Fannie chooses to redeem them. The reason they might do this is to get rid of the dividend expense which must be paid for $FNMA to receive dividends. It would be better if people thought all the preferreds were par of $X and crashed it. Then I could buy more and get an easy 20X when the conservatorship ends"
