"$VIX: one of the market direction tips I teach my clients is when the market is volatile (as now) and the VIX is climbng above the recent range (as now) check the %B (which measure distance above the upper BBand). I learned this from Bollinger himself: never short the market when the VIX is above XXX %B. Yes it can always climb higher but more often the move is done and things cool off after that.
