"Yesterday I had a business lunch at a nice restaurant in Kyoto. The menu was prix fixed. JPY 2500 for the pasta lunch (choose one from various types of pasta) JPY 3500 for the meat lunch (same choose one) and 4500 JPY for the pasta and meat lunch (choose one of each). As is often the case with prix fixed menus some choices had a surcharge (+800 for wagyu etc.). Except that ALL the choices had a surcharge meaning it was literally impossible to get a lunch for JPY 2500 3500 or 4500. Yes I am tempted to narc them out"

"Interesting divorce case. Marriage breaks down so husband starts living apart. Sends JPY 230000 per month to support wife and child. Files for divorce mediation (which is mandatory) no agreement reached so files for a judicial divorce and stops sending money. Judge finds the marriage has irretrievably broken down but denies the divorce anyways to punish husband for not sending money. This is interesting for several reasons. The law gives Japanese judges tremendous discretion as to whether or not to grant a divorce but this is more by omission than directive. The Civil Code gives four clear"
