"Windows updates are not fun but let's get a few things clear. X. Windows XX or XX does not force reboot when you are in the middle of work. It actually knows when you are working and updates are scheduled outside those hours also called Active hours. X. Windows XX will only force install updates if you've been skipping updates for several weeks. Windows clearly warns several times before rebooting the PC. Again it does not happen in Active hours. X. In this case Wassim's PC could have been updated to apply his organization specific updates (not Windows) or it was the IT team that choose to"

"Microsoft does not force updates. This is a misconception. It really knows when it should update itself. And if you've unsaved work it'll never try to delete those and proceed to update. Yes Windows can sometimes update itself but only when you are not using the PC and you have been delaying updates for weeks. You don't want a vulnerable PC do you People hate Windows as if it's always bugging out or force-updating. That is not true. Windows is surely not perfect but it's also not as bad as these engagement farmers want you to believe. Just pause updates for five weeks if you hate it so much."

"Windows does not update if you pause updates. I've been pausing updates for weeks and never forced an upgrade. You can simply kill the Windows Update service or use open-source tools to block it for decades. Or just use Group Policy Editor. But you can't expect Microsoft to expose those controls at the GUI level because a) Windows is used by those who don't even understand what it means to stay exposed to attacks b) older people also use Windows and nobody would want them to turn off updates fortheir lifetime unknowingly"

"this is not 2009 mate. you can't expect a toggle that disables updates until you choose to turn it back on. nobody would turn it on unless they desperately need certain features. windows like any os is more vulnerable than ever and microsoft is only trying to protect consumers. we literally have zero-day vulns every month. you can't expect microsoft to add back an option that disables updates until you turn it back on. this level of control is only going to put people in the hands of some ransomware scammer"
