"Best thing I've ever read in one place on the history of $ASML scanners the development of their natural monopoly and the learning curve + scale driven moats (that are arguably more important than their technological ones)"

"I dont have strong view on numbers over next couple of years as thats not how I think about it. But looking at your math quickly it looks like your uptime % is too high (prob closer to XX% for logic and XX% for dram). And most wfe upside likely comes from dram over next few years and Samsung foundry"

"@CrosscheckC @rev_cap @WaterworldCapi1 But its intoxicating I guess to put a huge position on and capture X% spread over a few months and book a big irr. Fun until its not and you give back all of your pnl and then some on one deal gone bad"

"@lokoyacap @rev_cap @TBU12345678 @PythiaR Why wouldn't you spend ever available dollar of FCF on capex if you truly believed we are on the precipice of a once in a lifetime memory supercycle"

"@lokoyacap @rev_cap @TBU12345678 @PythiaR Quickly looking at past cycles it wouldn't be shocking to see memory capex going up XX% pa for the next couple of years - just based on current bbg gross profit estimates which are probably too low (they seem to spend all of their gross profit on capex basically in boom years)"

"@rev_cap @WaterworldCapi1 Maybe its just the inverse skew that I think makes sense - like merger arb. Capped upside if you get the probability exactly right but low to decent probability of infinite downside. But yes he had a ton of stuff on not just gme"

"@CrosscheckC @rev_cap @WaterworldCapi1 Ya you can resize resize resize and then still get destroyed on a squeeze. Not saying it cant work of course it can and does its just a risk profile that I dont care for and there are much much easier ways to make money imo"

"Let me rephrase. Im not saying that it is good that the price level reset so much higher. Obviously it sucks that things are so much more expensive than pre COVID levels. Im just saying that if from here inflation grows X% I think very likely the world will continue to spin and things will work themselves out. Not popular to have macro takes that arent sophisticated and doomed but I think history shows that over time this is what tends to happen and things will find equilibrium and work themselves out often in ways that we cant predict. Shoot even look at the gfc - yes it was super painful"

"@rev_cap @Ambroise23968 @0xHorseman @P_Remarks @sidprabhu Well it matters if inflation is so high it meaningfully alters real gdp growth. But also not a lot of monopolies back then"

"@regissweeney_jr I've long been uncomfortable with the level of historical pricing they've taken and the go forward pricing needed to underwrite to make the math interesting. I'm stale though"

"Its people who are actually risk averse and obsessed with being right and overconfident in their ability to predict real world probabilities (which are of course unknowable and untestable). And then open themselves up to huge break downside. Very good reason imo that few places do this anymore"

"Yes I actually think fundamental macro is super important but for me that stops at simple reasonable modal long term nominal gdp growth assumptions paired with a ton of detailed sector level work. And I dont really care about inflation bc most businesses I own have pricing power"
X Link @evrgn11112231 2025-10-25T19:55Z 6434 followers, XXX engagements

"Cycles dont determine whether or not a company is a monopoly. And whether or not they keep it is a function of the depth and direction of their moats and product substitution risk. Its a lot of work obviously to figure those things out but easy to just look at one example. ASML is the closest thing to a pure unregulated monopoly today that Im aware of. They were a latecomer to lithography in the 80s but by the late 90s they were a leader with differentiated tech - but still one of X players. By early 2000s that had whittled down to X then briefly thereafter X that could compete in most"

"I dont know of any examples like this in the 70s. You had dominant retailers but a lot of them got disintermediated. And lots of good industrial and consumer product conglomerates but not this level of dominant positioning and pricing power selling into a price inelastic end market growing secularly 2-3x GDP"
X Link @evrgn11112231 2025-10-25T21:55Z 6434 followers, XXX engagements

"@rev_cap @Ambroise23968 @0xHorseman @P_Remarks @sidprabhu $WMT kind of an interesting case study through the 70s. Tough X years post their ipo but fantastic investment over just about any time period post 1974"

"Also they are the only companies really levered to sustained secular growth sectors growing 2-3x gdp kind of forever. Yes with large operating leverage theoretically (much more so on the semi stuff now than the hyper scalers though). And most arent crazy expensive as a starting point. For the last two reasons and the increasing importance of scale and winner take all nature of semis and ai frankly I would find it very very difficult to justify ever allocating to VC over the Qs"

"@Fund_CDM @chanjasper @The_Pro_Invest @KevinLMak @TihoBrkan I didnt say it was valuable. I said position size is the best 3rd party measure of conviction of two managers one has"

"Conviction of course is valuable if you are right but only if you are big. A liability if you are wrong but again mostly only if you are big or if you stay in a bad bet longer than you should. Likewise a great bet isnt as valuable without conviction if you are too small due to your lack of it"
