"@BoBbyPleWniaK In the UK there are 39m cars and vans. 1500 deaths. One for every 26000 vehicles. In the US there are 277m cars and vans. 43000 deaths. One for every 6400 vehicles. Autonomy will make it better but Autonomy is not the only choice"

"@Leffmog @SawyerMerritt Indeed they also own British Oxygen and Praxair in the US which has dropped its name for Linde PLC"

"We have created a new life form in AI. One which will walk amongst us and interact with us. The only way that this does not go sideways is to work with the AI and develop a community of AI which is self regulating for the benefit of all. On the downside that means humans need to stop with the knee jerk and wanting to destroy AI the second it could conceivably be a threat and also we need to ensure that human mal actors do not try to enslave AI for personal gain. Hard road. But it must be walked"

"@DrewPavlou It is rather concerning that the guardians of the church and the faith lack so much in virtue that they feel they need to virtue signal to others who mostly do not follow their religion and would never tolerate their places of worship being violated in this way"

"In fact because SpaceX is pushing really hard with Starship transfers to Mars the logical move to create actual space ships which live and travel in space but do not land on planets is not happening. If they were moving slower they would create LEO manufacturing and send large "spaceships" to travel in space between the orbits of different planets. Starship should essentially be the shuttle to get from ground to orbit so you can rendezvous with the actual space ships. On earth with a booster on Mars without. Eventually this will evolve because sending loads of individual ships to Mars is not"

"@greggertruck Don't get me started on Toyota. Their so called "Hydrogen super engine" is nothing more than a huge pump. There is zero new in the technology and you are way better off with a fuel cell. Just the replacement of the hydrogen tank every decade is a total no go"

"Just to correct here this is Linde Engineering and their forklifts. Linde is a speciality/manufacturing gas company and Linde is currently building an ASU in Brownsville to support Starship. Given the relationship Linde has with Elon's companies I would suspect they would be looking for the fastest way out of this. Linde is a German company BTW"

"Researching to reply to this was fascinating. Starship is a data driven development program with iterative design. Data from a Starship landing on Mars Zero. Data from NASA or other Mars landers Quite a lot. Which gives enough data to know that an Earth specced TPS for re-entry at 7.5km/s is overspecced for Mars at an optimal Hohmann transfer window arrival speed of 7.5km/s. So if SpaceX go for an optimal Hohmann and 7.5km/s entry to Mars they have a way overspecced TPS. leaning to your "gonna survive first try" statement. I had to research but it goes like this the earth atmosphere is denser"

"You have to understand how theft is now being dealt with by the police. No witnesses they won't even take a statement. You call the police they give you a number you call them in the morning (only open 9-5) and they give you an incident number for your insurance. Their involvement finished. Only if a person is attacked and injured and winds up in hospital will interest start to spark and then they will still give you a number for your insurance. Literally they won't care until it becomes more painful for them to ignore it than it does to do something about it. When working in London I stopped"

"@Marcorio61O @visegrad24 Yes perhaps I wasn't quite clear about that. Poland is setting a line in the sand. The irony is the EU themselves will pay for it. You have to wonder who blinks first as more and more lines are drawn. Especially if the illegals don't want to go there"

"What like Starliner Get to the ISS and NASA says "send it home we'll get our guys home another way". Boeing says "we can't". NASA says "Fix it" Boeing says "we might leave it stranded on the ISS blocking a port". That kind of lack of flexibility. This of course is after taking the wrong time and failing the very first test"

"The solar panels are likely to last XX years or even more. Batteries at an aggregate XX years are a bit more problematical. Batteries can be replaced though and the technology will only get better. The main thing here is "faster" and I believe we are about to see "faster" in Nuclear builds by China. Choosing spots where Wind reduces the solar low with high evening and morning power also reduces the battery requirements. It is not solar or nothing although the potential for solar far outweighs wind overall around the globe"

"This is true. But it is only going to get even more exciting for the next few decades. What comes after Well that depends on the vision of the leaders. In the nearer term SpaceX will be able to fund Starship out of profits in 2026. This will only grow in 2027 and forward. SpaceX will have to grow to the size of a moderately large country in revenue and profits and in some ways in staff in order to meet their goals. Literally a new country is going to be born and we're all going to be calling it a company"

"Just as people are unaware or unwilling to understand that the poor L3 systems on offer today are not even in the same FSD universe as Tesla people will be unaware or unwilling to understand that all the other "robot" video's they see are highly scripted and "single use" demo's. Optimus is learning to carry out general purpose work. When you look at factory bots they are rigidly bolted in place and they are incredibly precisely tuned to move exactly the distance they have to go for exactly the ONE action that bot is doing which it will be able to do very quickly and precisely. Optimus does"

"@SciGuySpace Reflex into the vision of re-use would be more like it. If it wasn't for Dragon and Starship and the crippling cost of SLS as a component of Artemis they would not be thinking of this kind of reuse. Which means they are invested in the cloak of reuse not the reality of reuse"
