"Speaking of tropical. Nice surge heading into the southwest states through Saturday. Also whatever #96E becomes it too will bring moisture next week. This is a very dry part of the year typically for southern CA so we will take it"

"What is of more interest to us is the nor'easter type storm guidance continues to generate over the weekend. Low pressure will organize east of FL on the same front we are watching today and move up or just off the Mid Atlantic coast over the weekend. Then it gets tricky cuz guidance keeps it off the coast with the operational EURO stalling then driving it west (Ensemble mean never brings it ashore) and the GFS taking it east behind what will be Jerry. It reminds me a little of the situation we dealt with with Humberto and Imelda where the ensembles went out to see and the operational went"

"Lake effect rains aided by warm lake temperature and colder air aloft. Personally Im waiting for it to be SNOW which isnt the case here"

"The upadated 00z run of @GoogleDeepMind is out. A faster developing system will turn quicker and potentially lift north of the Greater Antilles. A system that stays weak (the more likely scenario because of forecast shear) will have more time to develop if it gets buried over the Carribean into the weekend. Now just because its only one run of one model please expect changes going forward. This is still a low confidence forecast overall. I also think its interesting to note that several members of the XX make this a very powerful hurricane over time with westen routes. That has huge"

"Will be interesting to see what the HH find on their trip this morning. Deep convection to the south and east of the center has me wondering if we could get a new center if it persists or if this is just a displaced mid level center due to shear. There are always plenty of caveats with weak stationary systems"

"Heavily sheared #melissa continues to sit and spin over very warm water in the Caribbean. Thank goodness for shear and dry air as its keeping it at bay. However in about XX hours that shear is forecast to weaken and the storm could intensify and grow rapidly south of the Greater Antilles. Reliable guidance has had this scenario since yesterday and NHC has a major hurricane in XX hours. Then we wait for a launching point that could bring the center of melissa either east over or west of Jamaica. By next Tuesday the system should start to feel the influence of a deep trough evolving in the east"

"Melissa still drifting northwest at this time. 12z guidance moves this closer to Jamaica in XX hours and then sits it there till it gets sling shot northeast next week. The question is what will it be at that point and if it sits over Jamaica will that keep it from developing into a beast with the land interaction. Most 12z intensity guidance ramps it up rapidly after XX hours so this will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Scenarios like this certainly bring potential catastrophic FLOOD risk to the forefront of the #melissa impacts list. Stay tuned"

"Sadly the things we are more confident in regarding #Melissa haven't changed. Intensity forecast of a MAJOR hurricane eventually and the fact that this could hammer Jamaica for days. Landfall there is still uncertain and weak steering makes the forecast extremely difficult but eventually this thing has to move north and whether that is east over or west of Jamaica is still uncertain at this time. One thing we know though we could have one hell of a hurricane moving north that will impact Jamaica The Caymans east central Cuba Hispaniola the Turks & Caicos and maybe even the Bahamas over the"

"Details on soon to be hurricane #melissa continue to come together and none of the scenarios are good for Jamaica. Shear has the potential to be the wild card here but most guidance goes nuts with this thing giving us a cat4 or even cat5 before it even touches Jamaica in less than XX hours. Hurricanes have hit Jamaica before but not at this potential intensity direction and slow movement combination. Hopefully those that can leave will be able to do so. Once Melissa has cleared Jamaica it has Cuba and Guantanamo Bay in its sites potentially still as a major hurricane. High mountains dominate"

"Melissa on final approach to Jamaica and on its way to Cat5 status( which it likely is now) our 3rd of the season. Pressure continues to drop and landfall is likely tomorrow morning. It's hard to wrap your mind around the humanitarian effort that will need to follow this but there will be one from Jamaica to southeastern Cuba To Hispaniola to parts of the southern Bahamas and Turks. Hard to believe Bermuda even needs to watch this thing by overnight Thursday"

"Melissa bearing down on Jamaica this morning with recon data that continues to support the rarest group of hurricanes to ever roam the atlantic in our lifetime. There have only been X hurricanes with sub 900mb pressures in the basin. Melissa could join them before landfall. Current recon could support a 180mph sustained hurricane wind. What matters is Jamaica and the nearly X million people on this island. Black River Parottee Great Bay Montego Bay and Trelawny are just a few places that will be forever changed in the next XX hours. The black line below is the projected center. This island"

"Over the next X days we will deal with a couple low pressures in the east. The first one today going from the south to the northeast ending as SNOW in the higher elevations of upstate NY and northern New England on Halloween night. Lots of rain in between and on the coast. Dryer by Halloween for most. Then another low tries to develop over the northern Gulf Sunday and Monday that should bring rain back into places like Atlanta before the weekend is over"

"#Melissa continues as a sheared system this morning with all the action on its east side. It's also still moving west. More guidance recently takes it farther west which you may see reflected in the 5am update. This movement keeps its heaviest rain away from the Greater Antilles for the moment. Make no mistake though The Greater Antilles and the Turks and Caicos should be watching this closely because once it turns north it will likely be a hurricane. This may take the better part of the next X days to do that so if you live in CubaThe Cayman's Hispaniola and Jamaica preparation is key."

"Wild seeing all the players and how small #melissa is in the grand scheme of the synoptic scale. Here is how it all plays out going forward. Should be unsettled in the east till this trough clears which is likely the rest of the week. Maybe a little novelty snow too"

"Fom NHC: "Satellite and radar imagery indicate that Melissa has made landfall in the Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba near the city of Chivirico at XXX AM EDT (0710 UTC) with maximum sustained winds near XXX mph (195 km/h). The minimum central pressure estimated from the earlier reconnaissance data is XXX mb (28.12 inches)". Melissa still a major hurricane and it will be when it emerges from Cuba later this morning. Then it's on to Crooked Island in the Bahamas albeit a little weaker but its where a couple hundred people live. @cyclonicwx"
