"Most climate scientists and I always use that term in air quotes are really just activists who want to advance specific energy policies along by using their credentials as a crutch. They fixate almost on obscure metrics like global mean surface temperature (GMST) because it is a relatively easy number for laypeople understand it's easy to plot on a chart where the y-axis can be narrowed to make it look scarier than it is and easy to build policy around. "Peters point is a very important and good one to make. to translate in analysis of Kaplan Meier survival curves if the control group has an event rate of 10% what observers are interested in is what the reduction is from that 10% base incidence. If you showed a y-axis from 0-100 when the control group rates are 10% that would be the distortion Youd just get these little lines at the bottom.
