"Assimilation has become somewhat of a dirty word in recent years as if migration to another country should require nothing from the migrant apart from a plane ticket and a visa. I think we need to raise the standard if societies (esp. in the west) are to survive and thrive. It is irresponsible to think that migrants need not necessarily adopt the customs laws and expectations of the country that they are seeking to call home. Assimilation should be expected and indeed required. Having lived for some years in a non-European country I can tell you that they fully expected that you will adopt"
