"The argument that simplicity secures SoV chain over complexity IMO has legs. "Hedge against Bitcoin" requires the lowest attack surface. Zcash wants to have *lower* attack surfaces while fixing BTC problems (scalability + privacy) *How* we fix those problems (is the simplest most uncontroversial way possible) matters. Debate on this matters if we plan to sell to Bitcoin OGs. Hybrid consensus introduces additional attack surfaces and *as of yet* I haven't seen the market trust limited validator sets with high market caps. (I've seen the opposite)"
