Furthermore Elon Musk is opening them up because his business model doesn't depend on closed use but rather on technical reputation and the momentum of xAI Cloud. OpenAI is the opposite: it sells controlled access not code exposure. Yes OpenAI said so but they were referring to highly capable models in a social sense not technically cutting-edge ones. "Not asking for it in a competitive timeframe so whenever its not crown jewel works. Grok X & X are being open sourced at a similar size and were also frontier. Text only is also fine by me.
