"Parliaments Committee on Environment and Natural Resources has faulted Government for paying US$118Million (UGX428.990Bn) to UMEME Limited as buyout amount at the end of its concession in March 2025 yet the same company owes Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) for the UGX600Bn electricity it supplied to Umeme. The criticism was made by both Patrick Aeku (Soroti County) and Herbert Ariko (Soroti East) during a meeting held between the Committee and Ministry of Energy alongside the electricity companies to discuss the status of the distribution and transmission networks"
