A May 2025 directive to "rubber stamp" approvals, yet we call the NRC "independent." Yesterday's 50-39 vote wasn't a confirmation; it was the formal surrender of the agency's autonomy to the White House.

The takeover was systematic. A 10-9 party-line committee vote, a key senator withdrawing support over "White House involvement," and the forced removal of a 20-year veteran director all confirm the goal: gutting the institution and replacing expertise with obedience.

An "independent" commission is now one that's been successfully captured. Safety is no longer the mission; compliance is.
