Been thinking about how prompting is becoming the new Spreadsheet skill requirement.

There was a time when "knowing Excel" was a competitive advantage. I think it still is to some extent, and I used to test for it regularly in quant dependant marketing roles.

Now it's just expected. That said, I still see weak spreadsheet skills among marketers, especially those coming from bigger companies where an analyst usually handles it for them.

I think now it's a lot more expected. If you work in marketing, ops, finance, or eCom, you’re meant to know your way around a spreadsheet.

We’re hitting the same point with AI. Prompting is how you unlock leverage. Without prompting skills, your team is missing an entire skillset of problem solving, and efficiency gains. This isn’t about hiring an AI specialist, it’s about levelling up the whole team.

Just like the expectation for people to know how to use spreadsheets, now they’ll need to learn role-specific prompting and how to structure a good input.

Prompting is the new Spreadsheet. Don’t wait for it to become a job requirement. It already is.
