BW Energy To Commence Offshore Drilling in Namibia

Namibia’s energy sector took another forward stride as BW Energy officially contracted the Deepsea Mira semi-submersible rig for the drilling of the Kharas prospect in the Orange Basin. 

In collaboration with NAMCOR E&P, this strategic initiative seeks to unlock significant energy reserves, boosting national revenue and reinforcing Namibia's growing role in global energy markets.

This operation not only positions Namibia as a potential key player in offshore oil exploration, but also raises important questions around sustainability and environmental regulation. As drilling is set to commence in the second half of this year, local communities and environmental groups will be watching closely to ensure benefits are shared equitably while protecting ecosystems.
