All home sapiens came out of Africa - the loss of melanin in the skin is an environmental genetic pressure - caused by the need for Vitamin D - which the body synthesises from milk etc plus sunlight and is essential for growth - in climates with less sunshine body needs to absorb more so loses the pigment as it's a disadvantage .
