Saudi Arabia and UAE have made unrealistic promises of investments in the US. That has given big talking points to Trump. Pakistan has used the ego lever with Trump cynically but successfully, reflected not yet in tariff figures but political support for the country at India’s cost. However, Japan which has agreed to invest $ XXX billion in the US has been slapped with XX% tariffs and forced to make concessions. Japan is most vulnerable in security terms, depending entirely on US protection. A headline deal here means giving Trump a headline. The problem is that things have to be reduced into writing and here the government can be in political trouble if we make undue concessions in vital areas. A big challenge ahead for India with a US president who has reduced geopolitics to not only trade negations alone but tariff bullying .
