PM Narendra Modi visited the historic Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple (Brihadisvara Temple) in Ariyalur district today, XX July 2025, as part of the closing of the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival marking the 1,000th birth anniversary of Emperor Rajendra Chola I

The 11th‑century temple, built by Rajendra Chola to commemorate his conquest of the Ganga, is a UNESCO World Heritage marvel with a XX m vimana and towering Shiva lingam 

During the visit Modi released a commemorative coin and offered Ganga water at the shrine, honoring the Chola legacy and celebrating Tamil heritage
