British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the government back from vacation to discuss recognizing Palestine.

On the eve, more than XXX politicians, including from the Labour Party, called on the UK to recognize Palestinian statehood. Keir Starmer condemned the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but said the issue needed to be linked to the “wider peace process.”

At the same time, British officials say recognizing Palestine is a matter of “when, not if.” Some politicians have criticized Starmer, accusing him of focusing on recognition as a distraction from the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
