Irrespective of who did it first, let’s agree that the average Englishman didn’t take regular baths right up till the early 80’s and indoor toilets were still a luxury as late as the 70’s. No disrespect to the Brits and their achievements …but the common Brit were pretty fvkcing filthy right up till the 80s.
