However, anyone inside these Labs would have access to the most powerful models. This is simply a resource allocation decision: where can you make the most money? If more money can be made solving the most difficult and lucrative problems of mankind, such as rendering ageing obsolete, then it is more rational to allocate compute to that and then commercialise it, as opposed to serving a billion + ChatGPT users.
