You are betting that the stock will be at a lower price. So you are willing to sell your shares and buy in the open market at a cheaper price! 

Think of it like this. Example: 

You want to start selling iPhones. So you promote that you sell iPhone and XX people order from you. You are betting you can pay cheaper and sell it at your price let’s say $XXX. So you start selling them today at $XXX but the price you buy them tomorrow is $XXX so you make $XXX from short selling!
