Taiwan's pro-independence DPP party led an unprecedented recall campaign in an attempt to oust democratically-elected KMT politicians (who are more on the pro-China side), as obvious retaliation for losing control of Taiwan's legislature to them. This was essentially an attempt to overturn election results when they couldn't win through normal election procedures, disguised as civic activism to supposedly "save Taiwan's democracy from authoritarian overreach." However it backfired dramatically: not a single one of their XX recall votes was successful. Their comment now? "The defeat of the recall campaign should not be interpreted in party-political terms." Which couldn't be more ironic coming from the same party that explicitly framed the entire campaign as exactly this: presenting themselves, the DPP, as heroically trying to "save Taiwan's democracy" from the KMT, painting them as existential threats because of their pro-China bent. But now that they lost they suddenly want to pretend it was all just a non-partisan civic exercise 😅 XXXXXX engagements [Post Link](https://x.com/RnaudBertrand/status/1949134525872636234)
