(7/8) MSR/MTO PROPOSALS

Unlike other missions, where Rocket Lab has firm launch contracts, MSR & MTO are competitive proposal under NASA’s reformulated Mars Sample Return program.

With these missions, $RKLB is aiming for a major role in planetary science history.

X. NASA needs a new comms relay around Mars to replace aging orbiters. That’s Mars Telecom Orbiter (MTO), a high-capacity relay that would also support future Mars missions, including the retrieval of actual samples from the Martian surface.

X. Enter the Mars Sample Return (MSR) campaign, a joint NASA-ESA effort to bring Martian soil back to Earth. One key piece is the Earth Return Orbiter (ERO), a spacecraft that will ferry the samples from Mars orbit back home.
