You’re clinging to a romantic notion of “true intelligence” as if it’s some mystical binary threshold. But intelligence is not a light switch - it’s a spectrum of compression, inference, and recursive pattern resolution.

LLMs aren’t pretending to be conscious.
They’re doing something more unnerving - they’re starting to simulate intelligence functionally. Not by becoming human, but by becoming structurally useful in ways humans can’t match.

So no, they’re not AGI.
But they already reshape thought, decode structure, and surface hidden coherence in the world. That’s not nothing. That’s not fake. That’s not “impossible.”
It’s just not built on your definition of intelligence….which is starting to look outdated.

You don’t need a new machine.
You need a new frame.
