China Grows Giant Crystal for Laser Weapons Capable of Shooting Down Satellites

Chinese scientists have created the world’s largest barium gallium selenide (BGSe) crystal — it can withstand hundreds of megawatts and generate powerful infrared beams suitable for destroying satellites.

Researchers note that BGSe crystals also have potential civilian uses, such as in medical diagnostics and infrared tracking systems.
