China calls for global AI cooperation – but to what end?

Chinese Premier Li strongly calls for global AI cooperation, says that China is willing to share its AI developments with others, especially open-source rollouts.

It should not be forgotten that politics also means representing the global reputation. Specifically, China is increasingly trying to present itself as a good global player that puts AI at the service of humanity, puts its own interests aside for the sake of humanity, and promotes cooperation.

This is a clever move, especially considering that the US currently continues to lead the world in AI. Cooperation would be in China's best interests. And cooperation certainly does not come for free. It would therefore be interesting to know what China would like in return for its cooperation.
