Podcasts hosted on regulated platforms (e.g., YouTube, Spotify, or other user-to-user services) fall under Ofcom’s oversight if they contain such content. - Direct Removal of Podcasts: Ofcom cannot directly order the removal of a specific podcast. Instead, it regulates the platforms hosting them. If a podcast contains illegal or harmful content, Ofcom can require the platform to remove or restrict access to that content. For example, platforms must have systems to detect and remove illegal material, and Ofcom can enforce compliance through fines (up to £18 million or XX% of global revenue) or, in extreme cases, service restrictions or blocking access in the UK.
