What if you lost your Uber receipt, how would you prove you actually paid?

You’ve heard modular chains split up tasks… but what happens when data disappears?

Imagine losing your Uber receipt, you paid, but there’s no proof on the app.

That’s Data Availability (DA): ensuring every scribbled detail (blocks, transactions, states) is publicly accessible.

Data availability ensures every node, or at least the right groups, can access transaction data needed to verify a rollup block.

Imagine a coffee machine pipeline:
••》Beans (transactions) go in
••》They’re ground (sequenced)
••》EspressoDA saves the digital “coffee grounds”
••》Everyone can sip (verify) anytime, because the grounds are stored safely
Without step 3, you have no coffee to taste.

Even if only a few nodes store the data, mechanisms like VID (Verifiable Information Dispersal) ensure anybody can reconstruct the full dataset cheaply.
