This is how you get to enter, at the lowest rung, the elite. If your undergrad degree isn't well respected, you have to go to grad school to get this privilege, & the grad school better be well respected. If you have the right degrees, the doors open for you. Actuarial science just looks at the data-- they find less "employment risk" when you only select out of the pool of people who have already been "filtered" by other elite institutions. This is also why employers are more likely to hire in-house references & incentivize employees to recruit their own friends and acquaintances etc. People call this "Networking"-- etc. This is how credit is acquired.
