Dozens of Democrats are quietly building war chests, hiring presidential-level staff, and testing messages as the most wide-open primary in a generation looms.

Governors like Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and Andy Beshear are making moves, while senators including Bernie Sanders, Mark Kelly, and Amy Klobuchar are hitting early states alongside rising "stars" like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pete Buttigieg.

Analysts say the race could be the longest and most expensive Democratic primary ever, with millions already being stockpiled before the first candidate even jumps in.

Unless, of course, this crowded field has a “Biden moment,” where almost everyone suddenly lines up behind one candidate practically overnight.
