TNB just got squeezed again by Madani.

Yesterday, LHDN slapped another RM840m additional tax bill on them for 2022.

Earlier this month, the court also ordered TNB to pay RM1.25b in back taxes for 2018 (down from LHDN’s original RM1.8b claim).

The technicality? TNB claimed tax relief under Section 7A (manufacturing) but LHDN insisted on Section 7B (utilities) - a procedural thing that could easily be waived by the Minister of Finance but he won't be doing this since Madani has overborrowed so far this year.

Total tax claims now near RM8b.

No surprise their share price has crashed X% since the court decision as analysts warn of big losses for TNB.

Who benefits most?

The govt gets a windfall, but remember: they only own XX% of TNB.

Most shares belong to funds like EPF, PNB, KWAP, Tabung Haji, and unit trusts - meaning money meant for rakyat savings via dividends and higher share prices gets sucked into the Madani govt instead.

As a GLC, TNB won't complain much and will probably just hand over its money to the government.
