Israel must of course allow food and water into Gaza to prevent starvation, OF COURSE, anybody with a brain and heart believes this. 

But why does nobody ever ask Hamas to surrender? Why does everybody act like Israel is the only side with political agency? 

Hamas have political agency. They can make political choices, as evidenced by the fact that they have previously negotiated ceasefires in exchange for hostages. So they could choose to end the war in exchange for the hostages. But they don’t do it. This is frankly utterly insane. It is genuinely psychopathic. 

It is frankly totally insane that they have kept this war going for X years while presiding over the immense suffering of their own people. They could surrender at any time, but nobody ever expects them to.
