The original Palestine Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1936, was Jewish. 

It was established by Polish violinist Bronisław Huberman as a cultural haven for Jewish musicians fleeing Nazi persecution in Europe. 

Supported by Zionist leaders and the Jewish Agency, it aimed to foster Jewish cultural identity in Palestine under the British Mandate. 

The orchestra's inaugural concert took place on December 26, 1936, in Tel Aviv, conducted by Arturo Toscanini, featuring XX refugee musicians. 

It played a significant role in the cultural life of the Yishuv (Jewish community) and evolved into the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra after Israel's independence in 1948.
