Gaddafi believed Africa’s power lay in unity. He pushed for one government, army, currency, and passport to unite the continent.

He proposed the “Gold Dinar,” backed by Africa’s gold, to replace the U.S. dollar and CFA franc in trade and backed the idea with major investments in the African Union.
