UK PM @Keir_Starmer: Palestinian Statehood Recognition Must Be Part of a “Wider” Peace Plan

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has affirmed his support for recognising a Palestinian state, but said it must be “part of a wider plan” aimed at achieving a sustainable two-state solution.

“This is the way to ensure it is a tool of maximum utility to improve the lives of those who are suffering,” Starmer said in an official statement released by his office. In the same statement, Starmer condemned the worsening humanitarian crisis and Israel’s military actions in Gaza:
“The continued captivity of hostages, the starvation and denial of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, the increasing violence from extremist settler groups, and Israel’s disproportionate military escalation in Gaza are all indefensible,”
Starmer declared.
He also described the situation on the ground as “appalling scenes” unfolding in Gaza.

Meanwhile, a coalition of XXX British MPs has called on Prime Minister Starmer to formally recognise the State of Palestine, putting added pressure on his newly formed government to take a bold diplomatic step.
