🚨 SCAM ALERT: CoinMarketCap “Journalist” Impersonation & Zoom Bot Hack Attempt

I want to warn the crypto and web3 community about a sophisticated scam attempt targeting public figures and founders. Here’s what happened to us:

Recently, a verified Twitter account claiming to be Dirk van Haaster, a journalist for CoinMarketCap, reached out for a feature interview. We scheduled a Zoom call, which was attended by Dirk and another person introducing himself as Igor Eurobinski (also claiming a CoinMarketCap affiliation).

đźš© Red Flags during the Call:

- Igor, who was running the call, insisted the session must be recorded and required the use of a so-called “Zoom bot” (allegedly for company policy).

- During the call, my screen went black multiple times while the bot was “active” and the mouse started moving on its own.

- Suddenly, a pop-up appeared asking for the computer’s admin password, an obvious hacking attempt.

- When I confronted them, turned on my camera, and asked them to show their screens, they refused, citing “company policy.”

- The moment I said “I think you are trying to scam me,” the call was immediately ended by both individuals.

Afterwards, we investigated further:

1) The Twitter account used is verified and claims CoinMarketCap employment.

2) There is no public record of Igor Eurobinski as a CoinMarketCap author, and Dirk’s social presence also raises red flags.

DO NOT share your screen or enter any credentials for anyone who claims to be from a major crypto publication, especially if they insist on external bots or refuse transparency themselves.

Please RT to protect others in the crypto/web3 space. Tagging @CoinMarketCap for visibility and action.
