That’s a false equivalence. The EU has condemned Turkey’s military presence in Northern Cyprus repeatedly and does not recognize the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” (TRNC), which only Turkey does. It’s been EU policy since before Cyprus even joined.

EU sanctions exist. In fact, the EU imposed sanctions on Turkey in 2019 for illegal drilling activities in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone. These include travel bans and asset freezes against Turkish officials involved.
