He later became Project Director of SLV-III, which successfully launched Rohini Satellite in 1980. X. Abdul Kalam never led ISRO. He was never Chairman. He was a key scientist but the leadership baton was with Sarabhai, followed by Satish Dhawan, and later U.R. Rao. X. Kalam always credited his mentors -Dr. Sarabhai, Dr. Brahm Prakash, and Satish Dhawan for shaping India’s space ambitions. X. Historical accuracy matters. Kalam’s contributions were immense in rocketry and later in missiles under DRDO. But rewriting history to say he “built ISRO” is false. X.
