NEWS | Senior Hamas official Basem Naim said U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff is deliberately misrepresenting the state of talks to serve Israel’s aims. His comments follow Witkoff’s claim that Hamas was not “acting in good faith” and the announcement that the U.S. would pull its team from negotiations.

“The negative statements of the U.S. envoy Witkoff run completely counter to the context in which the last negotiations were held,” Naim told AFP. “He is perfectly aware of this, but they serve the Israeli position.”

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu echoed Witkoff, calling Hamas “the obstacle” to a captive deal and declaring that Israel and the U.S. are now exploring “alternative options” that bypass a negotiated agreement.
