[@WassonWatch](/creator/twitter/WassonWatch) on x 44.7K followers Created: 2025-07-25 15:39:35 UTC I traveled through Qatar on my way to and from Iraq in 2008/2009 while I was in the Marine Corps. You may not be aware, but the US has a massive Air Force base called Al Udeid just outside Qatar's capitol, Doha. In truth, it's a pretty nice installation. It has plenty of amenities, a nice pool, good food, etc. One thing that always bothered me though was that Qatar had a customs office on the base. You'd land on base as a US servicemember, and then you'd have to go through a special corridor in which you'd go through customs before getting access to the rest of the base. They would even search your stuff. It felt undignified. It felt like a reversal in the natural order of things. It felt like we were submitting to Qatar instead of the other way around. In light of all the news about Qatar paying Trump influencers and so on, I've got to say, I'm not the biggest fan of Qatar right now. I'm totally fine with having a relationship with them that's advantageous to the United States, but we'd better not get it twisted. If they're getting the upper hand we need to shake things out and show exactly who is in charge here. I don't care how many hundreds of billions of dollars they invest. They don't, can't, and won't ever own America.
