Born in Chicago on July 25, 1951, White is a cofounder of the band Earth, Wind & Fire, who formed as the Salty Peppers in 1969. A bassist, singer, songwriter, author & philanthropist other than his work with EW&F, he has been a backing musician on at least XX studio albums. His foundation, The Verdine White Foundation, provides music education to underprivileged & gifted children. With EW&F, he has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame & Kennedy Center Honors. Verdine is considered one to be of the best bassists in music, placing #19 on Rolling Stone's list of "The XX Greatest Bassists of All Time."
